A Closer Look

During the time of the early church there was one sects known as Gnostics. These were people who placed a heavy emphasis on the spiritual realm, but didn’t care much for the earthly. Of course, this ran counter to Jesus, who in being fully God and fully man merged both of these together, and is continuing to do so.

But if the Gnositcs focussed too much on the spiritual, the Sadducees were the opposite - they denied resurrection after death. Now these are both extremes but I wonder if sometimes we spend time living in these camps. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 10:4, “the weapons we fight with are not weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”

Are you losing perspective of the spiritual? You have divine power! Peter said in his second letter that this divine power gives us everything we need for a godly life. That’s at your disposal and that’s where the battle is - against spiritual forces. So, watch yourself. Don’t live like a sadducee, as the camp song says, that’s just sad you see.
