A Closer Look

God’s covenant with us is essentially a contract and just like with your salary at work or the mortgage on your house - there are terms and conditions. Paul says in Romans 10:4 that Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. The previous conditions for receiving God’s love were essentially to follow the law, which was given through Moses.

The problem was that the standards were too high. The law revealed that the people of Israel were sinning continuously, and this separated them from God. That’s where Jesus came in. He died on the cross as a perfect offering for our sins (once and for all). This satisfied God’s wrath, taking what was intended for us and turning it away.

When Paul says ‘Christ is the culmination of the law’ or ‘end of the law’ that word in Greek is telos, which means the end of a matter - either in termination or in purpose. The law all pointed to Jesus. And with this our contract with God has too. Righteousness is possible for everyone who believes. You’re on this guest list! Faith in the finished work of Jesus, and you have peace with God.
