A Closer Look

When you get rejected for a job, it often stems from something you lack - not enough experience or education. Pretty much our whole lives, we’re told that we need more of something to climb to the next rung on the ladder. It’s capitalism encapsulated.

This is quite a contrast then when David says in Psalm 34:9, “Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.” In other words, all you need is God - that’s it. If that wasn’t enough David repeats this point in the following verse, “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” There it’s said a different way, those who “seek the Lord.”

To fear the Lord is to seek the Lord and to seek the Lord is to fear the Lord. There’s nothing more we need, for we have met our maker. The purpose of life is to praise God - so what more could top it?. At the start of the pandemic, I remember thinking if this is the end, I’m not ready - there are more things I want to experience, but very quickly my thought pattern was corrected. If God’s love is better than life itself, does your life signal that reality?
