A Closer Look
It has been said that comparison is the antithesis of contentment. In other words looking around at how others are doing can rob you of being secure in who you are. It doesn’t matter what stage of life you’re in, we all struggle with this at times.
I want to let you in on something though, the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:12, “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.”
He faced shipwreck, torture, hunger – the list goes on, but he did find a way to be content. So what is the secret? It’s in the word.
Contentment comes from the root word ‘county.’ The purpose for a county originally was for a region to be erected that could provide for itself. Counties strived to be self-sufficient – they don’t need outside resources. The people were to have everything they needed within this geography.
So the secret for contentment is to be God-sufficient, to rely on Him and only Him. Let’s live like counties, let’s live lives marked by contentment.
