At the beginning of 2020 Australian band CityAlight’s worship song ‘Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me’ has a message that we need to let deeply sink in entering the new year.

We must be reminded that our strength, our freedom, and our rejoicing are all because of Jesus. The Apostle Paul often reminded the churches he visited to keep coming back to this truth so that they could progress.

In Ephesians 6:11 he instructs, “put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” This is what you call a cause-and-effect. It’s wearing the full armor of God that enables you to resist the Devil’s schemes.

Apart from God’s intervention, we wouldn’t be able to stand; the Devil’s schemes would knock us over. Perhaps you know first-hand what it’s like to try and take on the Devil by yourself, you never come out a victor.

But in Jesus you can withstand the Devil’s attack, in Jesus you can’t lose. The past regret that has plagued you, the wedge that is driving through your marriage, even the private sin you feel in bondage to – all of these can be overcome with God’s armor. Your responsibility then is to put on the armor. Are you doing that?
