You can gain a lot of knowledge from reading the Bible, but only to a degree. The writer of Hebrews makes this fascinating statement in the eleventh chapter, “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command.” Isn’t that interesting?
For most things in life, understanding goes hand in hand with knowledge. You study or you spend time as an apprentice. But here, understanding is found through faith, and this really sets you on the course as a follower of Jesus. God creating the world is arguably the greatest miracle.
Think about it, to the skeptic if this is true, then everything else including the virgin birth and the resurrection of Jesus is at least possible. So, faith is the key to understanding these defining Christian events.
The writer of Hebrews further explains why this is in the latter half of the verse, “so that what is seen is not made out of what was visible.”
If this was the case and what you see around you was made out of what is visible, faith would no longer be necessary. You won’t have full knowledge until heaven. In the meantime, don’t be discouraged when you have doubts. Without them, faith wouldn’t be possible.
