Whether it’s a swim in the lake or a conversation with a missionary kid, there is something refreshing about dunking under water or gaining perspective on the world in a way you never would have considered. And, to have a destination or an activity that you know refreshes you is valuable, just as long as you know who it is that offers this in its fullness.

In Acts 3:17, the Apostle Peter makes this astounding statement amidst a speech to those looking on to the lame beggar who he has just healed, Peter says, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”

Doesn’t that just sound pleasing? Obviously to have your sins cleared is big news, but to be showered with refreshment goes even further. While caught in sin, there is fear and doubt that lingers but to have your sins paid for is to experience freedom from this – Jesus did that, and now he promises full satisfaction of this pardon.

The catch is, you won’t know this in full until Christ comes back or death do you part. In the meantime, there can still be times, glimpses of refreshment. The key is that they come from the Lord.
